Reclaim your ZEST in 2024!

We’re here, December! It’s incredible to me how the days, months, and years fly by. Or do they? Are we just so busy that busyness steals our ZEST of life? How does this land with you?

Our ZEST of life! That word makes me feel all sorts of excitement and fully energized, which is not the word we would typically use to describe our “busyness”. Have you noticed, when striking up a conversation with someone and you ask, how are you? The go to response seems to be “I’m so busy”. What does this even mean?? Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally guilty of saying this. What I really should be saying is “I feel tired all the time”. “I feel overworked”. “I have no time to listen to my own thoughts”. Etc. Is this relatable? I feel like it’s way more relatable than I’m so busy. Amirite?

It’s time to take back our ZEST!

Step 1: Start being honest about how you really feel. When someone asks how you’re doing. Say what’s real. Whether you know this person well enough to share or not, say it. For one, it gives courage to the person on the receiving end to also be brutally honest about how they are feeling so we can all stop hiding under BUSYNESS! And heck, they may be able to totally relate and just validate your feelings!!! LASTLY IT FEELS GOOD TO BE HONEST. IT’S AUTHENTIC!!

Step 2: Start prioritizing ZEST! We can’t FULLY engage in life because we’re tired and overworked, etc…We’re just sitting around waiting for something to give or bring us happiness instead of making a CHOICE to be happy. Yes, that’s right HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE. ENGAGEMENT IN LIFE IS A CHOICE! Start choosing what you want. Prioritize it! Put it on your calendar if it’s the only way you’ll honor it. Set your alarm on your phone or watch to honor it. Whatever it takes to pull you away from the thief BUSYNESS!!!

Step 3: Commit to being responsible for the ENERGY you bring into the room and the energy you choose to surround yourself with. If you’re the vibe killer, own it and then decide to do something about it. If you’re in a room with a vibe killer, set a boundary and/or remove yourself. We have agency over these choices. OWN IT.

Step 4: Be more present. It’s about a feeling. Not about a doing or a want. How do you feel? How do you want to feel? Decide and feel that way. Commit to that feeling. How do you want others to feel around you? Be intentional with yourself and others. Let’s say you want to be healthy. Cool, love that, but what does that feel like to you? Describe it, go deep into your skin for that feeling.

Step 5: Lastly, ask yourself where are you NOT engaging in your life? How might you change this. Commit now! Focus on the feeling. Get out of your head and into your body.

As kids, we only hold so much responsibility over growing up. We’re totally dependent on grown-ups. As adults we are responsible for our own healing and growth.

Be outstanding in everything you do, especially when it comes to taking care of you!!
