Change comes from facing hard truths.
Happy New Year! And welcome to January 1st.
Every year, New Years looks a little different to me. In my twenties it was all about the party, being seen and getting lit. In my thirties, well, it wasn’t much different. It began changing in my middle forties. New Years began feeling redundant. I’d go out, see the same people doing the same things. It was like Groundhog Day but for New Years. So I started making changes for myself. Little changes. I’d think about one thing I really wanted to change in my life and I’d commit to it and see it through. There was always some sort of meaning attached to the change and it was personal to me.
Change starts with facing hard truths about ourselves. Whether it’s relationship focused, health focused, work focused, family focused, nutrition focused, etc. Facing hard truths, sounds scary and uncomfortable. That’s because we’re de-conditioned to facing truths and conditioned to avoiding. Avoidance feels comforting. You can ask someone if they like where they are in life, if the answer is no, and a year later they are still in the same place with the same “no” answer, it’s because it’s comfortable. They’ve mastered living in the discord, so it’s become easy but not rewarding. Here’s the real truth, when we avoid the hard truth, we’re just waiting for the consequence, because there is always a consequence. Avoidance leads us to a negative path eventually.
Life is a struggle at times. It’s meant to be. The struggle is where we learn and grow. So why not, design a better struggle for yourself? What change do you want in your life? Choose the struggle that will come with the change, design it, acknowledge it will be hard, acknowledge you will want to give up, acknowledge what you will learn, acknowledge how it will make you a better version of you and then COMMIT TO IT!
I LOVE this quote by Brendon Burchard, “Your struggle can’t be the only one the world gave you or you’re not living the best quality of life.”
Commit to YOUR growth and enjoy the journey it takes to get there. Let go of your impulse to quit when you get started.
Cheers to a spectacular 2024!
Stay Magnetic,
