Most of the time we are completely identified with our thoughts.
It’s hard to ignore the voice in our heads, it’s been our constant our entire lives. Have you heard anyone name their mind as their best friend? I haven’t but we should, that is our first go to for most decision making.
As an Embodiment Coach, I help people make the connection between the mind and body, viewing the body as “I” rather than something outside of themselves. When we are triggered the mind takes over. Therefore not being a conscious choice. The idea of Embodiment Coaching is to CHOOSE rather than respond to the trigger with a knee jerk reaction. Are you following me?
Checking in with the body helps you spot the warning signs that are triggering us to respond in certain ways. Such as noticing where you are carrying stress in your body. I work in the fitness industry and I see a lot of strain carried in the neck and shoulders as well as the low back. This brings people in with all sorts of injuries they are trying to heal, most of which could’ve been avoided if we just STOPPED to connect and tune into the messages our bodies are sharing with us.
Our bodies hold all the memories of our lived lives. How we store those memories is unique to each of us. Here are some trigger points that could be activated at times in response to trauma: Heart rate, muscle tension, suppressed immune system, and digestion issues, just to name a few.
When we stop thinking of the body as something outside of ourselves, we will begin to tap into the feedback and guidance our body gifts us everyday. You will connect to your body’s way of KNOWING.
Every action you take originates in the body. Focus on being present with your whole self.
